Directive (EU) 2024/825 outlaws generic claims like “eco-friendly” and offset-based claims like “carbon neutral” — for every store selling to EU consumers, whatever its size or location. Gransko finds the risky claims in your copy, cites the exact rule, and helps you fix them.
The checker runs entirely in your browser — nothing you paste leaves it. The Shopify app’s Free plan needs no card.

The rules
The directive amends the EU’s Unfair Commercial Practices Directive with new per-se banned practices. Some claims are banned outright; others are banned unless substantiated; a third group needs case-by-case review. Every Gransko finding carries its article.
| Example claim | Status from 27 Sept 2026 | Rule | What it means |
|---|---|---|---|
| “carbon neutral” | Banned | UCPD Annex I, 4c | Climate claims based on offsetting are banned outright — even if the offsets are real. |
| “eco-friendly” | Fix or substantiate | UCPD Annex I, 4a | Generic claims need a recognised certification covering the claim, or same-page specifics. |
| “the green choice” | Fix or substantiate | UCPD Annex I, 4a | “Green” as a marketing claim (not a colour) follows the same rule. |
| a self-made eco badge | Review | UCPD Annex I, 2a | Sustainability labels must come from third-party-verified schemes or public authorities. |
| “built to last decades” | Review | UCPD Annex I, 23g | Durability claims must be evidenced under normal use conditions. |
| “net zero by 2030” | Review | UCPD Art 6(2)(d) | Future targets need an implementation plan with independent third-party monitoring. |
The product
A Shopify app that does the compliance work where it lives: your catalog.
Connect your store and Gransko scans every product, collection, page and blog post — in nine EU languages, English to Polish — with rules mapped to the directive’s articles.
AI drafts a specific, verifiable rewrite for each finding and re-checks it against every rule before you see it. Edit, approve, apply — nothing changes without you, and one click reverts.
Add the mandatory legal-guarantee notice, software-update period and durability label to product pages with theme blocks — official artwork, no code.
After the first scan, Gransko keeps watching: product edits trigger rescans within a minute, and a weekly digest tells you what changed.
From the same date, every seller of goods to EU consumers must show the new harmonised legal-guarantee notice — a fixed design set by Implementing Regulation (EU) 2025/1960 that may not be re-typeset. Gransko ships it as a theme block on every plan, including Free:
